Co-Ordinating your family classes with SHCA!

The SHCA has co-ordinated the new Monday Total Body FUNctional Fitness class which will be held on Mondays from 6-7 pm at Silverwood School starting January 9 and running for 10 weeks - with the Children's Arts and Activity class (5-9 year olds) at the same school and same time.

The Total Body FUNctional Fitness class is completely new to our association!  The class will be instructed by Lauren Kapphahn.

Total Body FUNctional Fitness Functional Fitness exercises train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports. Using a variety of equipment such as medicine balls, kettle bells, weights, etc. this class will focus on exercises that translate to an improvement in your performance of daily activities. Improve balance, agility and muscle strength with this practical program. The focus will be on muscle groups and movements that directly translate to out-of-gym activities (hiking, overhead lifting, core stability, etc.). Functional exercises train your muscles to work together in this full body workout. All fitness levels can be accommodated.

We are also offering a Family Art class (7+ & adult) on Thursdays from 6-7:00 pm at Silverwood School art room.  This class will run at the same time and school as the adult Yoga and Weights (in the gym) class.   This will be a way to include your entire family in participation options with the SHCA!

Art for the Family allows children and adults to explore art making materials and art processes together. This class focuses on developing basic and age-appropriate art making skills, developing cognitive skills and hand-eye coordination, and opening up imagination and creative thinking. There will be a different and fun activity each week. Activities will include painting, colouring, drawing, modelling, collage, superhero drawing, making an art book, and developing a simple portfolio. Children and adults will be introduced to simple fundamental drawing skills and understanding, including concepts such as contour and line, positive and negative space, proportion and perspective, shading, grey scale and tone, texture, gesture, and much more. Come and learn a fun way to appreciate art!
