Saskatchwan Waste Reduction Council - Composting Initiatives

1.      Home Visits (Composting Help at Home)

The Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council, in partnership with the City of Saskatoon, is offering home visits from a Master Composter. This is for any resident of Saskatoon that needs advice getting a composting system started, or trouble-shooting one that already exists. A trained volunteer will come to your home and help you with your composting question or problem. For more information, please call 306-931-3242 or email info@saskwastereduction.ca.

2.      $20 Rebates on Rain Barrels or Composters

The City of Saskatoon is offering a limited number of $20 rebates on rain barrels or composters purchased in Saskatoon in 2014. (Limit one rain barrel rebate and one composter rebate per household per year.) You can find the form for this mail-in rebate at http://www.saskwastereduction.ca/rebate-form. Fill it out and send it, along with proof of purchase and proof of residency, to:

3.      NatureCity Festival! (May 24th – May 31st)

The NatureCity Festival is put on by Wild about Saskatoon, an informal collective dedicated to the conservation and enrichment of wild lives and wild places in and around Saskatoon. From May 24th to May 31st, there will be a whole week of (mostly free) nature activities for all ages going on around the city.

The SWRC’s Master Composters will be participating on May 29th, as part of the Urban Agriculture Tour. From 6 – 8 pm, our volunteers will be hosting a composting presentation and work bee at the King George and Riversdale Community Garden (Southeast of the Ave H South/16th St. corner). Come out to learn about how composting helps make a garden vibrant and beautiful – and get your hands a little dirty!
