Spadina Crescent Closed Between Ravine and Pinehouse Drives Due to Outflow from the Gardiner Dam
Spadina Crescent and the adjacent pathway is closed between Ravine Drive and Pinehouse Drive due to an increased outflow of water from the Gardiner Dam that will see water levels along the South Saskatchewan River rise an additional 0.5 metres. This closure is a safety precaution due to water overflowing the banks in the lower lying portions of the pathways and road which could be compounded by the expected heavy rains today and forecast for Saskatoon over the next few days.
The rise in river water on Spadina Crescent and the Meewasin Valley Authority Trail will occur regardless of the amount of rain that falls today. Outflow from the Dam today and for the remainder of the next week will be 1,550 cubic metres per second.
Long-term forecasts are indicating the potential for a further significant rainfall in the headwaters in Alberta over the coming week. Should these rains materialize, flows may have to be increased further.
For safety reasons, the closure will remain in place until river flows subside. Motorists are reminded to please drive carefully, obey all road restrictions and watch for work crews in the area.
